An MOT is an annual check of your cars condition which is required by law for most vehicle types after your vehicle reaches three years old. The MOT verifies that your car is safe to use on the road and that the engine does not pollute the environment excessively. Also, your car insurance isn’t valid if you don’t have a valid MOT certificate.
An MOT covers:
- Lighting and Signalling Equipment
- Steering & suspension
- Brakes, tyres and wheels
- Seat belts
- Body structure
- Driver view (windows, wipers & washers)
- Other general components such as the exhaust, fuel & engine emissions.
The condition of your engine, gearbox & clutch is not checked as part of the MOT, although the engine emissions (pollutants emitted via the exhaust) is checked for environmental reasons.
